Back to the Blog

Dear Readers,

I intend to return to writing the astrology blog this summer after a seven-month hiatus.

In October, 2009, my husband of 36 years passed away after a long illness. I decided to take a break from the astrology website and go back to my teaching career. Now that I’m on summer break, I have a bit more time to devote to the astrology blog and I return refreshed and re-oriented toward life.

I’m not sure what direction the blog will take, perhaps more of an orientation toward short essays, rather than the emphasis on ephemera.

My motto now is “Life is good. Each day is a gift. Be happy while you are alive.”

OverviewThe Great Depression

For the first ten days of the month, critical thinking is emphasized, with Mercury transiting Virgo, a sign of its rulership.  Retrograde Uranus in Pisces opposes a Virgo stellium consisting of Venus, Mercury and Saturn.  Thought processes concerning health and welfare, as well as work procedures, can become confused by conflating belief with fact in issues requiring a changing ideology of compassion.  Balance, accuracy and common sense  are required  to sort out fiction from fact.  Mars in Cancer trines retrograde Uranus in Pisces, giving the courage to change in caring ways.  Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune in Aquarius add an idealistic trine to  the Sun as it moves to the mid-degrees of Libra, indicating the will to create homeostasis in all systems, now changing in structure with Pluto recently having gone direct at the first degree of Capricorn.

The second week of October takes on even more of a balanced tone as the Sun moves into the latter degrees of Libra to create strong harmony with the Aquarius stellium engaged in healing the wounds of humanity.  Venus and Mercury join the Sun in Libra, creating an atmosphere of beautiful intellectuality.

Around mid-month, the atmosphere becomes contentious as Mercury and Venus in Libra square Pluto in Capricorn.  Fairness and social justice conflict with the interests of aggrandized wealth in government.  The mood becomes more contentious on October 16 as Mars, the bringer of war, moves into Leo, the sign of kings and leadership, indicating a desire to use force in order to show who’s boss in the world.

In the third week, the Sun moves into Scorpio, so the desire to transform cirmstances for bettter or worse prevails.

During the last week of October, the Sun in Scorpio moves to square Mars in Leo, indicating that certain leaders might have no compunctions about taking military action for self-aggrandizing purposes.  This would be a good time to exercise caution where the urge to be in conflict with others might arise.

Towards the end of the month, Saturn makes the big move into Libra, forcing us to heed our responsibilities to others.  We will, in the next two-and-a-half years, realize that an honorable peace depends upon responding to the needs of others, even if now, the lession may not seem all that obvious, with Saturn in Libra squaring Pluto in Capricorn.

October 29:  Saturn enters Libra, the sign of its exaltation.  A major change in responsibilities that involve necessary limitations takes place.  We move from such responsibilities in the matters of routine in health, along with work and service, to the matters of responsibility in relationships.  To maintain balance, we will find it necessary to respond to the needs of others for the  next two-and-one-half years.

Beauty is the pledge of the possible conformity between the soul and nature, and consequently a ground of faith in the supremacy of the good.

September, 2009 finds many of us recovering from our recent losses of the eclipse season by defining  new goals, new directions, new purposes.  There is no other way.  We may turn toward the future sustained by the knowledge that life is a continual process of change, given structure by the dignity of work and meaning by the renewal of our humanitarian beliefs.  This is a month of finding ways to be of practical service that exemplify the highest ideals.  Issues of fairness and social justice must be addressed, knowing full well that the time is not yet right for the full harvest of our dreams.  The work goes on.  In the face of extreme restrictions, we learn to perservere.

Sail on, O Union, strong and great!
Humanity with all its fears,
With all the hopes of future years,
Is hanging breathless on thy fate!

Our hearts, our hopes, our prayers and tears,
Our faith triumphant o’er our fears,
Are all with thee — are all with thee!
