Overview

Mars will be going direct in Gemini towards the end of the month, after starting out the month in a tense opposition with Pluto at the anaretic degree of Sagittarius. This January would be a good time to avoid ideological confrontations that will prove nothing and soon blow over, anyway. In addition, Mercury will be going retrograde in Aquarius on the 29th of January, where it will be conjuncting Neptune, so we might do well to consciously allow the thought processes to go inward toward the imaginative realms until February 20, when Mercury will go direct again in Aquarius.

Mentally, this month is space-cadet time, so enjoy the fun and don’t take things too seriously. Towards the end of the month, retrograde Saturn in Virgo will be trining Venus in Capricorn, giving us some stable earth energy to work with that will help to offset the wobbly or retrograde Mercury that will be in effect for the latter part of the month.

The biggest change this month, of course, is the movement of Pluto into Capricorn. This change will slowly, yet completely transform our economic and governmental structures on a global scale during the next 16 years. In a way, we are going to be entering a time of the Long Goodbye to the world as we have known it, and these changes naturally will be more apparent to those people who are in their later years. Venus and Jupiter will be conjoining Pluto as Pluto enters Capricorn, intensifying the entry of Pluto into Capricorn.

Retrograde Mars in Gemini will be opposing Venus and Pluto as they move through the last degree of Sagittarius and into the first degree of Capricorn, where Jupiter is already located at the third degree of Capricorn. There could be a feeling of being drawn into intense disagreements regarding other people’s articulation of beliefs and ideology, especially where the notion of greed might be concerned. It would be best just not to go there: Let it pass.

On the whole, this might not be the best month to start new projects, but it would probably be a good month to contemplate changes for the future that might tend toward idealistically implementing new technologies. Also, this month would also be a good time to use electronic healing technologies such as musical recordings with subliminally recorded positive affirmations in order to program the subconscious mind for success and well-being during the coming years of change.

If you can imagine it, you can do it: you can be what you wish to be.

Transits

House in Winter

Week of December 30 to January 05

January 02: Mars in Gemini opposes Pluto in Sagittarius at the anaretic degree. Ideological enmity could lead to violence as a final and desperate attempt to control the thinking in regards to the resources of foreign countries.

Week of January 06 to January12

January 06: Sun in Capricorn sextiles Uranus in Pisces at the 16th degree. The will to govern is open to a change in belief.

January 06: Venus in Sagittarius squares Saturn in Virgo at the ninth degree. We might find that critical thinking puts a damper on our love of our own belief systems.

January 07: Mercury enters Aquarius. Our thinking tends to favor change that would benefit humanity.

January 08: Capricorn New Moon: Sol conjuncts Luna in Capricorn at the 18th degree. There could be a tendency for governments to try to display their military prowess, as militaristic thinking turns towards a bellicose stance. (Mars in Gemini opposes Pluto in Sagittarius). A mutable t-square consisting of Venus in Sagittarius at the apex of the t-square, and retrograde Saturn in Virgo opposing Uranus in Pisces, will tend toward indecision in foreign affairs. People may feel somewhat agitated, yet not really know what to think or believe. Retrograde Mars in Gemini trines Neptune in Aquarius, so that the imagination and speech may be activated to return to a kinder, gentler time, such as when we were going to San Francisco with flowers in our hair.

January 12: Venus in Sagittarius squares Uranus in Pisces. We could feel a bit confused concerning our love of a certain belief system and a change in our ideals. Since Neptune co-rules Sagittarius, the problem with Pisces is eventually worked out simply by returning to our core beliefs, which probably are applicable to either situation. The problem may be no more than a matter of semantics that causes a tempest in a teapot.

Winter Scene with Trees
Week of January 13 to January 19

January 16: Venus in Sagittarius sextiles Neptune in Aquarius at the the 21st degree. Our expanding horizons open the door to an optimistic belief in our common humanity.

January 20: Venus in Sagittarius opposes retrograde Mars in Gemini at the 25th degree. Excessive articulation of beliefs could backfire with quarrelsome responses from those who would like to return to the past.

January 21: Sun enters Aquarius. We are inclined to learn new ways of expressing our individuality through the use of technology. An appeal to reason will be favored over an appeal to emotion.

January 21: Jupiter in Capricorn trines retrograde Saturn in Virgo at the eighth degree. An increase in organization will help us to streamline our work processes and to improve our health routines and diets.

A Place in the Sun

January 22: Leo Full Moon: Sol in Aquarius opposes Luna in Leo at the second degree. A balance of self and others stresses communal values. Mercury, Neptune and the North Node of the Moon are trine to retrograde Mars in Gemini, reminding us of the great humanitarian speeches upon which the notion of human rights was founded in the past. Venus and Pluto in the late degrees of Sagittarius sextile the Aquarian stellium, giving the humanitarian impulse an extra measure of philosophical depth and beauty.

Jupiter in Capricorn is in exact trine to retrograde Saturn in Virgo, helping us to achieve health and wealth through the regulation of our daily routines.

On the other hand, Venus in Sagittarius squares Uranus in Pisces, making us a bit flighty and prone to emotional outbursts — as if disinclined to go along with the rest of the rational and well-regulated energy of the Leo Full Moon. Since Mercury is exactly conjunct Neptune and is getting ready to go retrograde on the 29th of the month, it would not be a good time to make major decisions because we are more in tune with the imaginative processes of the subconscious mind than with the rational impulses of the Aquarius and Capricorn energy at play.

It’s a good time to imagine the future in altruistic terms.

January 24: Venus conjuncts Pluto in Sagittarius at the anaretic degree. Extremely intense emotions concerning the use of ideology to dominate the resources of foreign lands may be making one last stand.

January 25: Venus enters Capricorn, bringing a love of hierachy as a tool to achieve order.

January 26: Pluto enters Capricorn for a long and transformative stay of 16 years in the areas of global economy and government. Economic and governmental systems slowly degenerate and die so that new forms may be born from the old. Many people may experience fated endings having to do with the limits of power on the way to a brave new world. The last time this happened, Tom Paine wrote the pamphlet Common Sense and moved the world from the corrupt rule of sovereign kings and organized religion to the structured self-rule of representative democracy, giving voice to the Rights of Man.

Pluto in Capricorn Quote:

The body of Benjamin Franklin, Printer (like the cover of an old book, its contents torn out and stripped of its lettering), lies here, food for worms: but the work shall not be lost, for it will (as he believed) appear once more in a new and more elegant edition, revised and corrected by the Author.Benjamin Franklin (1706 — 1790)

Week of January 27 to January 31

January 29: Mercury goes stationary retrograde in Aquarius. We may expect mechanical problems with any and all technological devices that serve the purpose of communication or transportation. We may find we are just not thinking very clearly and may be more inclined to daydream than to use the rational mind. Be prepared to do things over and over again until they finally come out right. Retrograde Mercury is conjunct Neptune, so we are moving into a twilight zone where fantasy takes precedence over reality. If we can, we will benefit by relaxing and giving the thinking processes a little break until February 20, when Mercury will go direct in Aquarius and our thinking caps will be functional once again.

January 30: Venus in Capricorn sextiles retrograde Saturn in Virgo. There is the possibility of achieving a more svelte figure by exercising restraint in our diets. We feel good about slimming down. In addition, we are able to create beauty through carefully structuring our work.

January 31: Mars goes stationary direct at the 25th degree of Gemini, yet will remain in the retrograde zone until April 04, 2008, when Mars will leave the retrograde zone at the 13th degree of Cancer. At the end of this Mars retrograde period, which began on the 16th of September, 2007 at the 25th degree of Gemini, we probably will have gone through a thorough review of how we would individually wish to take action based upon desire using the energy of caring and nurturing and the energy of communication in the houses in which we have Cancer and Gemini energies.
